The Desilting Solutions ROV is able to navigate in total darkness and fully submerged through the use of lights, CCTV cameras and two sonar modules fixed to the front and rear of the ROV.
The Black Street stormwater pipe in Brisbane is a major arterial pipeline, draining stormwater from approximately 3000 homes. It was found to be choked by a build-up of up to 1.8m of silt and gravel sediment throughout its length, reducing the hydraulic capacity of the pipeline by over 50% and risking severe flooding of the homes in the area.
Conventional construction and desilting techniques proved inadequate and cost prohibitive to clear the pipe, and a new innovate process was pioneered with the help of Brisbane City Councils Innovate Proposals platform. The Remote Operated Vehicle was utilised by Desilting Solutions using the Black Street pipeline as a “worst case” scenario in the Brisbane stormwater system.
Our Desilting ROV has the ability to travel 250m from the base station and can produce slurry at a rate of up to 1600 litres per minute at a depth of up to 20 meters below water level.
A Desilting Solutions portable water treatment plant allows the slurry to be separated into clean water and solids. All waste is managed on-site and the dewatered waste product can then be removed by conventional means thereby further saving disposal and cartage costs.
